Linhay Hill Quarry is among the most important quarries in Devon, being one of only four limestone quarries that between them produce consistently over 80% of the crushed rock aggregate sold in Devon. The others are all owned by a global international company, by contrast Linhay Hill Quarry is a family run business. Surprisingly it is also within the Dartmoor National Park, although you would be hard pressed to notice it as you drive past it on the A38.
The visit offers a unique opportunity to look behind the scenes and learn how the quarry works. We will be shown round by Neil Gibbs, quarry manager. The visit will be on foot, so attendees must be steady enough on their feet to navigate rough and uneven surfaces and have suitable footwear. High Viz and hard hats will be provided. Numbers are limited to 20 as this is a busy environment and it is important that members stick together as a group so they can hear what is said and appreciate the quality of information given by the tour guide.
Meet at 10.00 in the weighbridge car park in the quarry. Please use the main entrance and
follow signs.
