Morning Session: Gidleigh Hall 9.30am

A Wool Workshop that includes making a Stitched Landscape

The cost is  £12  for materials to take part (The morning session is free to attend if you are not making the stitched landscape).

Bridget Cole is a Dartmoor livestock farmer and environmental land manager interested in promoting the benefits of the wool from Dartmoor grazing sheep; maximising their value as a product rather than a byproduct of sheep farming and looking for imaginative ways to use wool and to develop markets. This interest has resulted in an honours degree from Plymouth University in 2020 and an address book that includes wool manufacturers worldwide!

Barbara John was the Devon Co-ordinator for the West Country Embroiderers for many years and teaches embroidery/stitching workshops to various groups, traditional & contemporary.  With others she set up an embroidery group in Bovey Tracey in 2021. Before retirement she taught creative stitching & dressmaking at South Devon College Adult Education.

Afternoon Session: Gidleigh Church 2.00pm

Spiritual Celebration of Dartmoor in Prose, Poetry and Music.

Following the success of last year’s celebration at Lydford Church we are holding a similar event this year at Gidleigh Church.

Led by our vice-chair Nick Fennemore, there will be time to enjoy the surroundings of this ancient church and appreciate some of the ways that people through the years have expressed their feelings about Dartmoor in words and song. Please do get in touch with Nick if you have some words or music to contribute. 07919 547508 canonfennemore@btinternet.com

Scorhill Stone Circle is close to Gidleigh and, depending on the schedule (and the weather!), there may be a chance for an informal walk up to the circle.

Please book through this website or contact Bill Murray on 01647 231297 / chair@dartmoorsociety.com.
